‘Wild Side’ column fails to provide argument

I was disappointed to read Orlan Love's “Wild Side” (Oct. 18), a column I have enjoyed in the past. After reading his bitter reaction to the failure of the most recent legislative attempt to allow large motors on Lake Macbride, his column will be one I will approach with much less enthusiasm, if I read it at all.
He employed a particularly sarcastic tone (“quiet, gentle folks who prefer paddling and sailing”) and failed to provide his own compelling, intelligent reasons why a change should be made. No, Lake Macbride is certainly not the Boundary Waters. Is there more to that point?
Instead, he provides absurd arguments about anglers being “excluded” from the lake and declaring Democrats to be the “party of small motors.”
I am the owner of a boat with a larger motor, and though it is not as convenient, I still plan to continue to fish Macbride as I have always done, either by paddling, using a smaller motor or trolling motor or, simply fishing from shore. I know there are thousands of acres on other lakes where I can use my big motor, and I have no problem with that.
