President will shape Supreme Court

To the editor:
The T-Rex in the room is what will befall the U.S. Supreme Court, depending on which party wins the presidency. Ted Cruz knows, but has been trying to spin the truth. If enough people fall for that ploy, their votes could tragically nullify many of our liberties - possibly forever.
The court has had an egalitarian majority throughout history, rarely faltering. Cruz condemned the 5-4 majority that granted marriage equality, and claims that if a Democrat is elected on Nov. 8, he/she will make appointments that could cause such decisions to be 8-1.
He's wrong. The oldest justices are egalitarians and three will be octogenarians next year. So if a Democrat wins, he'll be replacing egalitarians with others of like mind, and the majority will continue to be 5-4.
If a Republican wins, however, he/she will appoint anti-rights justices, and the very first will give the court an anti-rights majority of 5-4. A third one would boost that majoriy to 7-2. Because right now, the court's minority wants to rescind Roe vs. Wade and the 2003, 2013 and 2015 decisions that led to marriage equality. On the first such appointment, they could start doing that.
That court would render the U.S. unrecognizable. Nov. 8 is the decisive day when we keep the land of the free or become the DSA - Draconian States of America. It's up to us and it starts here on Monday.
