Linn-Mar swaps need justification

Recently, parents and students received a letter from Linn-Mar Superintendant Katie Mulholland explaining that Indian Creek, Bowman Woods and Wilkins elementary schools would be swapping principals in a bid to 'refresh” the schools. No explanation was given, no discouraging test scores were cited, no dwindling enrollment numbers were blamed.
As an Indian Creek parent, I can't comprehend her belief that IC needs to be 'refreshed.” Tina Monroe, the principal for 14 years, is the epitome of the word fresh. She puts her heart and soul into each grade, each classroom, each student. She reaches out and draws people in with her enthusiasm for education and children. She champions for her students who need extra help and she celebrates each success her students have.
The Linn-Mar school board meets at 7 p.m. Monday, June 9. I encourage people to attend this meeting, to demand a real answer as to why this swap is necessary.
In failing to give a tangible reason for the swapping of principals, perhaps the only thing really needed refreshing is the position of superintendent.
