Reader questions fairness of medical insurance

A married colleague of mine, who has two children under the age of 26, told me she paid $900 a month for medical insurance for herself and her two kids.
When I asked an unmarried 19-year-old friend with two young children what our facility offered her in health insurance, she replied, 'I don't need any. I am on Medicaid.”
Two women at the same work site. Is this fair?
