ETHEL ANNA SOPHIA NEWKIRK

Ethel Anna Sophia Newkirk was born Aug. 15, 1928, on the farm northeast of Williamsburg. The daughter of Herman and Anna (Baack) Heitshusen. She attended Immanuel Parochial School. Ethel was united in marriage to Richard F. Newkirk on Dec. 5, 1948, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. Ethel was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg, where she had been active in the church choir, Altar Guild and Women's Guild. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her family.
Ethel passed away Saturday, May 1, 2021, at the Compass Memorial Healthcare Center in Marengo at the age of 92.
She is survived by a son, Robert (dianna) Newkirk of Williamsburg; a daughter, Becky Koele of Aurora, Colo.; a grandson, Nathan Koele; a sister Luella (Jim) Stone of Des Moines; and a sister-in-law, Alice Heitshusen of Williamsburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband 2019; five brothers, Ervin (Medora), Willard (Milda), Herbert (Doris), Walter (Esther) and Edgar Heitshusen; and a son-in-law, Calvin Koele.
Celebration of Life service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Burial will be at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Williamsburg. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. A memorial fund has been established for St. Paul Lutheran Church Altar Guild or Women's Guild.
