MARION - Abby Phillips looks up to Kristen Hahn.
'I've always been a big fan,” Phillips said. 'I've always wanted to play like her.
'What happened to her in college, I hope can happen to me, too.”
The destination is the same.
A junior libero at Marion High School, Phillips said Monday that she has orally committed to play volleyball at Iowa State University.
Phillips is the career record-holder for digs at Marion. She averaged 5.1 digs per set last season as Marion went 25-16.
She will join the Cyclones in 2015, and she hopes to enjoy the same kind of career as Hahn, a former Cedar Rapids Kennedy star who went on to become an all-American at ISU.
'Iowa State has a really competitive program, and I love competitive volleyball,” Phillips said. 'I felt at home there. I loved everything about it.”
Phillips is a three-year volleyball starter at libero, and also starts at goalkeeper for the Marion girls' soccer team.
