Morris, Keith 'Mo'
Keith “Mo” Morris, 50, of Iowa City, died Friday morning, Sept. 27, 2013, at Mercy Iowa City due to complications of a prior medical condition. A “Time of Sharing” will be 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Iowa City.
Keith Morris was born April 4, 1963, in Omaha, Neb. Keith spent the first 14 years of his life at Annie Winnenmeyer Home and Glenwood State Hospital. He spent the ensuing four years living in foster homes in Vinton. Keith began receiving Supported Community Living and Day Habilitation services in 1982 from Systems Unlimited, Inc., where he resided until the end of his life.
Keith did not have any familial survivors at the time of his death. He did, however, leave behind dozens of Systems Unlimited staff who had the distinct pleasure of getting to know and serving him.
Keith quickly cemented himself into the hearts of staff with his acute sense for dark insult-based humor, penchant for chaos and infectious laugh. Keith was a man of simple pleasures. He was happiest when he could reach out and grab something: Koosh Balls, women and all things SpongeBob SquarePants. If those things were not available, he'd gladly settle for a White Russian.
Keith left an indelible mark on those who met him. His life became a model of human triumph and indomitable spirit to which all men and women should aspire. He will be sorely missed.
