Two men that have been living at the Hope House in Coralville were allegedly found with controlled substances when they submitted to a pat down at the facility on Monday evening.
According to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services, James J. Tyree, 27, and Andrew L. Pearson, 27, are accused of having controlled substances on their person when they were searched. Both men now face charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of contraband in a correctional facility.
Tyree is accused of having a folded piece of paper containing K2, which is often referred to as a synthetic marijuana with hallucinogenic properties, inside one of his pockets. Tyree was also carrying a "one hitter" smoking pipe, police said.
Pearson is accused of carrying a small plastic bag containing an unknown substance, along with a small metal pipe in his shoe. Pearson identified the substance in the bag as being incense, which he would smoke to get high.
Possession of contraband is a class D felony. Possession of a controlled substance is an aggravated misdemeanor.
