Loebsack supports Iowa women’s issues
The Gazette Opinion Staff

We support Congressman Dave Loebsack. We also support strong women candidates and cannot wait for the day when Iowa sends a woman to Congress. However, the woman elected by Iowans must be a beacon of hope and a leader for women's issues. While Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks has an impressive resume, she isn't the right choice for Iowa women. She will not protect and safeguard the rights we have fought for.
Loebsack recognizes that we must keep well-paying jobs here in Iowa. His bipartisan sectors bill brings industry leaders together to create and grow industries. In contrast, Miller-Meeks favors tax giveaways for corporations shipping jobs overseas.
Dave understands women are more likely to delay seeking medical care and experience medical bankruptcy. In the private health insurance market, plans routinely charge women higher premiums than men of the same age and health status. Dave supported health care reform to end these repugnant practices. Miller-Meeks repeatedly states she would repeal health care and take away equalizers for women.
Dave always fights for women, which includes supporting the historic Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act that restores the rights of women and other workers to challenge unfair pay and to help close the wage gap between women and men.
On behalf of Jean Lloyd-Jones, former state legislator, and Janet Lyness, Johnson County Attorney, both of Iowa City, and Sue Dvorsky, chair, Iowa Democratic Party, of Coralville, we support Dave Loebsack and ask for your support on Nov 2.
State Rep. Mary Mascher
Iowa City
