Violet "Vi" Marie Morlan, 92, formerly of Bloomfield, passed away Jan. 11, 2016, at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston.
She was born Aug. 18, 1923, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to
Carroll and Vera (Orris) Hanshaw. Vi was united in marriage to Robert L. Morlan on June 5, 1944, in South Mills, N.C., while he was stationed in the Navy. Bob preceded her in death Nov. 14, 2008.
They farmed many years in both Appanoose and Davis counties and also owned and operated Morlan's Jewelry in Bloomfield for 10 years. They then moved to Aitkin, Minn., and operated a fishing resort for several years, eventually moving back to Bloomfield.
Besides working with her husband, Vi also worked as a teller/ secretary at the Centerville National Bank, Davis County Savings Bank and the Bank of Aitkin, Minn.
Vi was a dedicated wife and mother, who loved serving the Lord, by being involved in her churches as children's choir director, playing and singing praise music in worship. Her faith in the Lord was very important to her and she loved sharing God's love with others.
She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her five children, Jack (Paula) Morlan of Johnston, Jill (Jerry) Jencks of Marion, JoEllen (Lenny) Espeseth of Aitkin, Minn., Julie (Kurt) Swaim of Bloomfield and Jane Morlan of Pulaski; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, whom she loved deeply; her three special sisters, Bertha Long, Delores Brown and Yvonne LaKose, all of Cedar Rapids; and many other loving family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; and a brother, Bud Hanshaw.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at Fairview Church of the Brethren, 18140 Highway T61, Unionville, with Pastor Spencer Keroff officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, with the family present to greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. at Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
Memorials may be given to Fairview Church of the Brethren or to Missions Funds of the Centerville Assembly of God Church.
