To the editor:
After more than 40 years as a journalist covering elections at every level of our democracy, I'm more than proud to finally make my first personal endorsement of a candidate.
My daughter, Kristin Janssen, is seeking the opportunity to serve as an at-large member of the Cedar Rapids Community School Board.
If desire and dedication alone were enough to justify her election, she should be at the top of the list. She has three sons and has been fully committed to having them receive the best educational experience possible in preparation for the challenges ahead. That goal continues to drive her eagerness to have a role in helping craft educational policy.
She will bring more to the table than desire, however. She also has the educational, professional and organizational talents that will enable her to serve effectively as a board member.
And, ultimately, she has the willingness to invest her time and talents in the future of education in Cedar Rapids schools.
