Schoonover, Dorothy Franklin
Dorothy Franklin Schoonover, 80, died Monday, April 26, 2010, at Windsor Manor in Vinton following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 1, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton, with the Rev. Tom Hartwell officiating. Interment will be held at Bear Creek Cemetery, north of Vinton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
A memorial fund has been established.
Dorothy was born Aug. 1, 1929, in Traer, to Glen and Leola (Finch) Franklin. She married Dan Poorman in 1948; he preceded her in death. On June 25, 1965, she married Leo Schoonover in Vinton; Leo preceded her in death on May 11, 2007. Dorothy had worked as a waitress.
She loved making candy, especially fudge, and she loved fishing and growing flowers.
She is survived by her sons, Bill (Susan) Poorman of Omaha, Neb., and John (Diane) Poorman of Vinton; her stepson, Carey Poorman of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her sisters, Ima Jean Smally and Ruth Lattimer, both of Vinton; and her brother, Dale Franklin of Naples, Fla.
In addition to her parents and two husbands; she was preceded in death by her son, Delbert Poorman; her brothers, Melvin and Merton Franklin; and her sister, Thelma Cabalka.
