Rieger, Eugene C.
Eugene C. Rieger, 91, of the Hallmark Care Center, Mount Vernon, formerly of Marion, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011, after a long illness. Services at 1 p.m. Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, where friends may call after 12:30 p.m. Burial with military rites at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Lorrine; and three sisters-in-law, Millicent Zenishek, Vernelle Willming and Wiladene Willming.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gene was born on May 7, 1920, in Lisbon, the son of Howard and Alyce Bear Rieger. He married Lorrine A. Hoggard on Oct. 20, 1945, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Gene farmed for several years and later retired from the Linn County Road Department, after driving a road maintainer for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, the American Legion as well as proudly serving in the Army during World War II. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and the time he spent with family and friends.
A memorial fund has been established in Gene's name.
