A Cedar Rapids man already in jail for harassment and stalking charges now faces a charge of threatening witnesses in a previous case.
Nicholas J. Mitchell, 22, of 2700 Seely Ave. was charged with assault causing bodily serious injury in June and since then he has called and texted over 100 threats - including threats to kill the woman, according to Iowa City police complaints.
Mitchell was arrested Dec. 4 for stalking from the threats and was also charged with harassment for threatening to shoot the woman's father in the leg while he sexually assaulted and kill her mother while her father watched, according to the complaint. Mitchell also said many times he would find the woman.
When police were investigating the allegations of harassment and stalking Tuesday, text message from Mitchell to the woman relating to the June assault were found.
One text included in the statement said, “Drop the statement or I have no choice wheter I love you or not,” according to police complaints.
Mitchell also said he would show the woman “how bad being a witness is,” in reference to a statement the woman made about the assault, police said.
Mitchell was charged with tampering with a witness while in the Johnson County Jail, where he remains on a $201,000 cash-only bond.
