Iowa City man faces multiple charges; police say he assaulted two women while carrying rifle

A 22-year-Iowa City man was arrested on felony charges of first degree burglary, possession of a firearm as a felon, assault while participating in a felony as well as domestic assault causing injury, first degree harassment and public intoxication on Sunday morning.
Reports indicate that Iowa City Police officers responded to 1100 Arthur Street at approximately 4:14 a.m. Sunday after receiving a report that an armed subject was involved in an altercation.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with two females that said Cheaster Snagg, of 1100 Arthur Street, had assaulted them with a rifle as they sat in their vehicle in the 1100 block of Hollywood Boulevard.
Snagg allegedly assaulted one of the women several times when he punched her in the head, causing minor injuries. Snagg compelled the victims to drive him to his residence and threatened them throughout the drive, Iowa City Police said.
Once arriving at Snagg's residence, one of the women was taken inside while the other was able to leave the situation and call 911. Neither woman sustained major injuries and Snagg was taken into custody by officers without incident.
A search warrant was obtained for Snagg's apartment and Officers were able to locate ammunition and the described rifle inside the residence.
Snagg was being held at the Johnson County Jail on Sunday evening. He has previous felony convictions for second degree robbery and second degree burglary, Iowa City Police said.
