Branstad responsibly manages tax dollars
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds have put forth an ambitious agenda looking forward and have a historic record looking back. With landmark bills on education reform and property tax cuts, Iowans should be proud of these investments.
In the governor's budget this year, less than 90 cents of every dollar our state government collects is being spent. The rest is going toward property tax relief and reserve funds in case of emergencies. We have turned a $900 million deficit into a billion-dollar surplus.
Thanks to this governor's sound management of Iowa tax dollars, we don't need to go back to the spend-to-debt policies of the past.
