Fire damages Wellman hog confinement building
Two fire departments spent more than two hours extinguishing a fire at a hog confinement building north of Wellman Sunday.
A 911 caller reported the fire, at 1074 Ginkgo Ave., at about 3:40 p.m. Sunday. Wellman firefighters requested mutual aid from the Kalona Fire Department to battle the blaze, and the departments were on scene until about 6 p.m. putting out the fire. Wellman firefighters were then called back to the scene at about 9:45 p.m. Sunday after the fire rekindled.
It's not clear how the fire started, and no information on damage was immediately available. The Washington County Sheriff's Office, Wellman Volunteer Ambulance, and Wellman Rescue assisted at the fire scene.
