Jefferson softball coach unfairly removed
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Aug. 20, 2012 3:35 pm
I was shocked and disappointed to read that Larry Niemeyer had been relieved of his duties as a softball coach at Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School. Teaching and coaching at Jefferson since 1978 would lead me to believe Mr. Niemeyer must have been doing a lot of things right.
What a lack of respect and appreciation for all the winning seasons, tenure, teaching and coaching that Niemeyer brought to so many students and the school over the years. It appears the school principal, Chuck McDonnell, did not have enough fortitude to tell Mr. Niemeyer face to face. That in itself is wrong.
I wish Mr. Niemeyer good health and happy trails.
