Waterloo standoff ends after police find house empty

Authorities say a situation where police surrounded a house for several hours ended after a SWAT team swarmed the home and found it empty.
Police surrounded the house late Thursday afternoon after officers detained a group of people outside as part of an ongoing investigation. Authorities believed there were more people inside the home and suspected they were armed.
The area was blocked off and several residents were evacuated as a precaution.
About 11 p.m., authorities fired tear gas into the house and went inside. The house was empty. Firefighters were then called to ventilate the house.
No other details were immediately released.
