A prep football diary: Week 8

The pursuit of perfection starts long before anybody is watching.
This Anamosa squad has been playing football together since we were in fifth grade. Each and every one of those years we grew up together has been vital to the success that we are having now.
It all started in the Anamosa Youth Football League, where we would get split into three different teams and compete against each other, as well as the surrounding area teams. Some of the coaching staff from that youth football program followed us all the way up to the high school varsity level. So not only did we build chemistry within the players, but we got connected with our coaching staff at a young age, as well.
That chemistry has gotten us to a point where almost nobody thought the Anamosa football program could ever be - 8-0.
After a 35-0 thumping of Union last Friday, that moved us one game closer to completing something that has never been done in more than 50 years at Anamosa - an undefeated season. The only team standing in our way is the Cascade Cougars, who defeated us a year ago in a game for the district title.
Tonight, not only are we looking to complete the undefeated regular season, but we are looking for our shot at redemption.
After all the years of growing up together, and battling it out on the field together, we are now realizing this is what it has all been for the entire time. This moment we are in right now is something nobody will ever be able to take from us.
The pursuit of perfection is well on its way, but it is nowhere close to being completed.
We will be satisfied when we are holding up that state championship trophy that this community has been waiting for all those years.
Anamosa football already has the district championship under its belt - now we are looking for one more title.
