CANCER SIDELINES BARTA FOR NOW -- University of Iowa Athletics Director Gary Barta will take a leave of absence to undergo treatment for prostate cancer, the UI confirmed Tuesday morning. 'Gary Barta will take an extended medical leave to undergo surgery and treatment for prostate cancer,' according to Steve Roe, Associate Athletics Director for Communications. GOLF SUPERINTENDENT AXED -- A senior position in the Cedar Rapids is being cut as the city works toward solvency of the golf department. The golf superintendent position will be eliminated effective Oct. 24. It is the latest step in the city's effort to balance an annual golf deficit averaging $340,000 in recent years.
