Shopping equals cash for area high schools

Place standings for 14 area high schools participating in Lindale Mall's school outreach program, School Cents, were announced Saturday at the Final Award Prize Ceremony.
$20,000 in cash prizes were awarded to the participating area high schools. Prizes were based upon points accumulated throughout the program that ran Oct. 1 through Dec. 31.
Central City High School took first place, winning $7,100. Alburnett High School took second and was awarded $4,100. Springville High School came in third, winning $2,000.
Following are the point standings and corresponding cash prizes per place:
First place: Central City High School, $7,100
Second place: Alburnett High School, $4,100
Third place: Springville High School, $2,000
Fourth place: Center Point-Urbana High School, $1,000
Fifth place: East Buchanan High School, $850
Sixth place: Olin High School, $800
Seventh place: Xavier High School, $750
Eighth place: North-Linn High School, $600
Ninth place: Metro High School, $550
10th place: Vinton-Shellsburg High School, $500
11th place: Cedar Rapids Washington High School, $450
12th place: Solon High School, $400
13th place: North Cedar High School, $350
14th place: Marion High School, $300
Alburnett received the Best Publicity Award, worth an additional $250.
School Cents is a program designed to assist area schools with funding for their programs in need. The program, developed by Lindale Mall is intended to build community wide support and recognition for those schools involved.
In the past twelve years, Lindale Mall has awarded more than $300,000 to area school through the School Cents program.
