Reminder: North Liberty special election is Tuesday
Apr. 24, 2017 9:11 pm
NORTH LIBERTY - Voters in North Liberty have the chance Tuesday to elect their mayor and newest council member.
Ballots in the special election can be cast between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the North Liberty Recreation Center, 520 W. Cherry St.
In all, 10 candidates are running for the two positions - three for mayor and seven for council. (Profiles of the candidates can be found here.)
The mayor candidates are current Mayor Terry Donahue, council member Chris Hoffman and resident Matthew Pollock. The term expires at the end of the year.
The City Council candidates are Jessica Beck, Jennifer Goings, Nic Gulick, Gerry Kuhl, Sarah Madsen, Mike Mbanza and Faraz Shah.
The open council seat extends through 2019.
Those who win the election are expected to take office in early May, according to the Johnson County Auditor's Office North Liberty special election website.
The election was forced once Pollock filed a petition triggering a special election a day after Donahue was appointed by the council to be the mayor. Donahue resigned his council seat to be sworn in, creating the council vacancy.
Former Mayor Amy Nielsen was elected last fall to the Iowa House.
