Oswald pleads guilty in sexual exploitation case

A former Dubuque high school assistant principal pleaded guilty this morning in a sexual exploitation case involving a student.

Shane Oswald, 40, pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation by a school employee. Other charges against Oswald, including distribution of a controlled substance and providing alcohol to a minor, were dropped by prosecutors as part of a plea agreement.

Oswald, while an assistant principal at Hempstead High School in Dubuque, was accused in January of having sex with a 17-year-old student.

He was placed on paid administrative leave after the incident, and resigned his post in April.
