Nation’s weather woes are not a new story

A Jan. 19 Gazette article proclaims “Extreme weather stresses crops worldwide.” What a shock. Like this hasn't been going on since the beginning of time.

Have we become so caught up in what is happening now and what we are being force-fed to believe that we do not realize that extreme weather has been around forever? Sure, there seems to be more major weather events than before because the media jumps on every extreme that arises.

Case in point, the current cold spell. You would think that the metro northeast has never been cold before.

I remember my grandparents telling stories of the Dust Bowl days of the 1930s and rainfall events in back-to-back years that forced them to lose and move from the farm they lived on because of crop damage

and fences being washed away.

We also have old photographs of train tracks being dug out by hand with snow higher than the locomotive.

Farmers will keep trying to produce a crop no matter what Mother Nature throws at them. It is what they do.
