CEDAR RAPIDS -If a large regional bank's automated teller machine network goes down, a new division of a Cedar Rapids business will go to work.
Tektivity Inc. on June 1 purchased MSC Technologies of Cedar Rapids, a business that specializes in analyzing computer network data traffic.
Doug Flugum, president and chief executive officer of Tektivity, said Michael Canney, owner of MSC Technologies, has established a reputation over the last 22 years for finding the packet or unit of data traveling on a network that is the source of a problem.
"While Mike was able to identify the problem, he always stopped at that point," Flugum said. "Now, with our expertise, we can go past that point and fix the problem.
"MSC Technologies has really brought us into a lot of larger clients. We have always served small- and medium-size companies, but now we can go out to medium and large enterprises."
Canney will head the new network analysis division of Tektivity.
"This merger will greatly benefit our customers," Canney said. "By joining Tektivity, we have the resources necessary to take the next step after consulting."
Flugum said Tektivity has about 25 employees and is looking for a few more with specific technical skills.
Tektivity, 9440 Atlantic Dr. SW, was established in 1999 as an information technology company providing business process solutions and helping clients maximize their IT efficiency. The company has become the information technology department or the primary computer and software support for hundreds of businesses throughout Iowa.
Tektivity has acquired four other businesses since 2005, including Palmer Communications in 2005, Iowa Electronics in early 2010, Iowa City Telecommunications in late 2010, and Choice Telecom in 2011.
