What should be incoming University of Iowa President J. Bruce Harreld's priorities in his first weeks on the job?
FROM OUR INBOX
Mr. Harreld should return his $1 million deferred compensation to an academic project or program of his choice that directly benefits students. He should then reveal, in great detail, the process for his hiring to the office of president. This would show his intent to be absolutely transparent and dedicated to the mission of an academic institution.

He should work to lower tuition fees.

Pres. Harreld's real task is to understand the operation of the University. Until Pres. Harrelds truly understands who is doing what and to whom at UI, it's impossible to achieve the ends to which the Regents charged Pres. Harrelds.
Anyone who has ever done a transition understands this standard practice.
