Former Cornell coach to lead Northwestern

Dec. 14, 2009 2:25 pm
Northwestern announced that Drew Pariano will replace Tim Cysewski as the Wildcats head coach, beginning in June 2010. Cysewski has led the Northwestern program since 1990, becoming Northwestern's all-time winningest coach and leading the Wildcats to two fourth-place national finishes (1990 and 2007). Cysewski, a former University of Iowa wrestler for Dan Gable and All-American in 1976 (3rd at 134), will remain on the staff to be the top assistant, likely mentoring Pariano in his first couple seasons at the helm.
Pariano, a former three-time national qualifier for Northwestern, coached at Cornell College in Mount Vernon for two seasons. He helped resurrect the Rams' program before returning to the Wildcats as an assistant, where he's served the last five years as the top assistant. Pariano, a former Ohio prep, began his career as an assistant at John Carroll University.
