We're an hour out from the start of Big Ten football media days, and what can a poor boy do except to sing for a rock ‘n' roll band?
On with pre-media days Fun Facts:
Illinois: Have won 2, 4 and 6 games in Tim Beckman's three seasons as their coach. At this rate, they'll go 14-1 in 2018.
Indiana:
Have been to one bowl game in the last 24 seasons, and that was an Insight Bowl. How do you not accidentally go to more than one bowl in 24 years?
Iowa:
Opens the season against Illinois State.
Wisconsin:
Opens the season against Alabama.
The Badgers have played the Crimson Tide once before, a 15-0 Wisconsin win in 1928. Don't look for a Badgers shutout Sept. 5 in Arlington, Texas.
Maryland:
Its last two bowls were the Military and Foster Farms. They don't sound like similar events, do they?
Michigan: Coach Jim Harbaugh went to Paris this month. He wasn't the inspiration for this Jimmy Buffett song.
Minnesota:
TCF Bank Stadium opened in 2009. No other school in the Big Ten West has a stadium younger than 86 years old.
Nebraska:
Has had a winning conference record in each of the four years it has been in the Big Ten. The only other team with a winning league mark in the last four years is Wisconsin. However ...
Ohio State:
Is 24-0 in the Big Ten over the last three seasons. In other words, since Urban Meyer took over.
Northwestern:
Lost 48-7 at Iowa last year. Two weeks later, it won at Notre Dame.
Penn State
: Doesn't leave Pennsylvania for a game until the seventh week of the season.
Purdue:
Has a 6-game losing streak. Iowa finished the 2012 season with a 6-game losing streak, then went 8-5 the following year. That does not mean the Boilermakers will do likewise.
Rutgers:
Is, yes, actually a Big Ten member. That, or it's the most-elaborate hoax in college sports history.
Jim Harbaugh. He went to Paris. (Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports)
