According to police, a teenager was shot outside a Dubuque pawn shop late this afternoon. Witnesses told KCRG-TV9 they saw three teenagers run out of the Dubuque Pawn shop at 2160 Central Avenue in Dubuque around 3:30 p.m. They say the owner of the pawn shop was chasing the teens and then shot one of them, however police have not confirmed that.
The victim was transported by Dubuque Fire Department ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Dubuque. The victim's condition is not known at this time.
Police have the shooter in custody for questioning, but have not identified the person.
Officers are still investigating the shooting and have not indicated why the teens were in the pawn shop or what would have caused the owner to chase them out of his store with a gun.
This shooting scene is a familiar one to Dubuque Police. The Pawn shop is near Knicker's Saloon. Earlier this month police were called to the bar when they say a father-son team tried to rob it. As the two tried to leave the bar, there was a brief shoot out with police. A Dubuque officer and one of the alleged robbers were wounded.
