Jimmie Coutentos, 77, of Cedar Rapids, was charged in federal court Tuesday with producing child pornography.
Coutentos, of 421 30th St. NE, appeared on two counts of producing child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography, Assistant U.S. Attorney Ian Thornhill said. Coutentos is held in the Linn County Jail pending a detention hearing Thursday.
An indictment unsealed Tuesday charges that in 2001 Coutentos “used two different minors to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing a visual depiction of the conduct with a camera,” according to Thornhill.
Coutentos faces up to 20 years in prison on each count of producing pornography and up to five years on the count of possessing child pornography, along with a $250,000 fine.
Coutentos was investigated by Cedar Rapids police and the FBI.
