Domestic oil drilling would help economy

With the turmoil going on in the Middle East and in the best interest of our country, we need to explore drilling for oil is such states as North Dakota, Montana, South Dakota, Alaska and Colorado. This would create jobs here in the United States, plus get us off relying on foreign oil.
America is sitting on top of a 200-billion barrel oil field that could potentially make America energy independent. If the United States drilled some of these oil fields, it would help in stabilizing the U.S. trade deficit and could cut the cost of oil in half in the long run. It could also add a lot of jobs with our unemployment rate.
Drilling for oil domestically could change our economic state and help us to get out of debt. Why would we want to pay so much for oil when we could easily cut the cost by drilling here?
