Cedar Rapids city officials will host a groundbreaking ceremony at 1 p.m. Wednesday to mark the beginning of the reconstruction of the flood-damaged Paramount Theatre at 123 Third Ave. SE.
The ceremony, featuring the Orchestra Iowa Brass Quintet, will take place on the sidewalk under the marquee and on a portion of Third Avenue near the theatre.
The groundbreaking marks the latest milestone in the theatre's recovery from the 2008 flood. Reconstruction, renovation and restoration activities at the theatre will begin in August.
Immediately after the ceremony, the city will provide guided tours of the Paramount Theatre so that attendees can see the historic building before it is restored.
