Iowa places fifth in Greco-Roman at Junior National Duals

Wrestlers from across the state represented Iowa well on a national level Thursday.
Iowa placed fifth in the Greco-Roman division of the Junior National Duals in Oklahoma City. Iowa finished 3-3 for the day, beating Oklahoma Red, 37-25, in the placing round.
Iowa advanced to the Gold/Silver Pool after placing second in opening pool competition. Iowa defeated California (35-30), breaking a tie in the final match, and Florida (36-22), falling to pool winner Wisconsin, 36-24.
Michigan Blue and Minnesota Black each beat Iowa in the final pool, but Iowa responded with a 39-21 win over Georgia Black to set up the last dual against Oklahoma. Illinois won the overall championship, downing Michigan Blue, 32-26, in then final.
Former Iowa City West prep and University of Wisconsin recruit Justin Koethe was among team leaders, posting a 5-0 mark at 160 pounds Thursday. Former Southeast Polk teammates and University of Iowa recruits, Alex Meyer and Cory Clark, powered the team. Meyer (182) went 6-0 and Clark went 5-0 at 126.
