Woman reports being robbed at Iowa City apartment

A woman told Iowa City police she was robbed inside an apartment building Tuesday night.

Police were dispatched to the 700 block of Westwinds Drive at 7:19 p.m. Tuesday. The victim told police she was standing in an exterior stairway between two apartment buildings when a man approached her and demanded money.

Police said the man grabbed the woman's purse and rummaged through it. After taking nothing from the purse, the man fled on foot towards Pheasant Ridge Apartments.

Police describe the suspect as a black man, 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds. He was wearing a black ski mask, black pants and a black Carhartt-style coat.

Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of this suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 358-8477.
