CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids man was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison for robbery and gun charges.
William McKinney, 34, pleaded guilty in May to two counts of second-degree robbery and possession of firearms as a felon. According to the plea, McKinney admitted to firing a gun into the ground in an attempt to scare and intimidate two people who were selling clothing out of the back of a van in the 500 block of 14th Street SE on March 22. After scaring off the victims, McKinney and two accomplices stole the clothing.
McKinney must serve at least 70 percent of the 10-year sentence before being eligible for parole.
