Davenport man charged for assaulting woman while visiting their child at hospital

IOWA CITY - A Davenport man faces charges after police said he assaulted the mother of his child while visiting the child at the hospital.
Police said Deon D. Westerfield, 18, was arguing while visiting their son at the University of Iowa Hospitals Neonatal Intensive Care Unit early Sunday morning.
According to criminal complaints, Westerfield spit in the woman's face, pulled her hair, and threw a cell phone at her.
Police said he also stood in front of their room and prevented the woman from leaving.
Westerfield was arrested and charged with domestic abuse assault without intent causing injury and false imprisonment.
