Too much anger from letter contributors
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Once again our “contributor” from Iowa City hits the letters to the editor page. I enjoy this page. It's another wonderfully positive and enlightening message: “Language used toward Obama breeds hatred” March 11 by Thomas Sass.
Unfortunately, the writer's message is rather saturated with hate itself. Literally! He uses the word hate nine times, not counting the letter's title. What a dismal outlook on life. That old saying, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I think can be applied 180 degrees out, too, for this fellow's political outlook. It seems to be a common denominator in his published submissions.
Not long ago we had another letter from a Cedar Rapids fellow, “extolling” fluoridation in the same vein Rogue General Jack Ripper (in Dr. Strangelove) did. Absolutely nutso (opinion). That writer and the writer of this “hate” letter might be exhibiting the same symptoms.
I'm aware of the old saw, “Be chary of giving advice! Wise men don't need it and fools won't heed it!”, but lighten up. It's hard on one's teeth gritting them all the time.
