Floyd County sheriff harvests, destroys two tons of wild marijuana
(AP) -- The Floyd County sheriff's department says it has harvested about two tons of marijuana found growing wild Sunday.
According to officials, none of the marijuana appeared to have been intentionally planted. However, they say some plants were cut, or had some parts removed.
Officials say marijuana was planted in Iowa in 1940's to be harvested, with the hemp being made to rope. The plant also grows wild in the state.
Authorities say the plants cut down in Floyd County tested positive for THC, which causes smokers of the plant to become impaired.
Floyd County officials said marijuana was found in 18 locations. The plants were cut down and burned.
