Video: 3 moments from Iowa-Nebraska baseball
Apr. 28, 2010 10:24 am
Iowa upended perennial power Nebraska 5-2 in a baseball game last night at Duane Banks Field. Although I wasn't in a reporter capacity, I took my camera along "just in case."
Iowa scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win. But here are three other moments that made the game interesting.
1. Nebraska center fielder D.J. Belfonte drilled this shot to the right-field corner with two outs in the top of the ninth. With runners on first and second, this could have led to two runs and put Belfonte on third base.
2. Iowa earned the game's final out to secure the win. The players rushed the mound to celebrate. True, this isn't one of the great Nebraska teams over the last decade, but the players were excited to beat the Cornhuskers, nonetheless.
3. Nebraska shortstop Chad Christensen had a large contingent of supporters at the game. That tends to happen when you're facing the Hawkeyes, and you're from Cedar Rapids. Christensen, a Washington High School graduate, singled in this at-bat and went 1-for-3 with a walk against Iowa.
