Cyclones return from team trip to Spain
Aug. 21, 2015 7:09 pm
AMES – Ten days out of the United States took its toll on some members of the ISU basketball team, but the experiences jumpstarted the team building with the new staff.
Jameel McKay, Jordan Ashton and assistant coach T.J. Otzelberger were some of the few that ended the foreign trip ill, forcing the Cyclones to cancel their final game. Iowa State was 2-1 in games played in Valencia, Madrid and Barcelona.
'It was good just to get out and coach those guys and for them to get a good feel for me, how we'll play and how I'll coach them,” Prohm said. 'The guys were great. The game we lost we were up 23-2, but we just didn't have the numbers to stay consistent over 40 minutes against a good team.”
Iowa State only had seven players, six on scholarship, available on the trip, but got consistent play from projected starters. McKay recorded a double double of 25 points and 10 rebounds in the last ISU win.
'Overall we really gelled as a team, found out what guys can do,” said senior Georges Niang. 'Jameel was a monster out there, Matt (Thomas) played well, Abdel (Nader) played well and Monte (Morris), obviously you know what he does, he played really well and Hallice Cooke also played well.”
