Wever, Darrell LaRayne
Darrell LaRayne Wever, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died at his home Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011. Services: 10 a.m. Monday at St. Jude Catholic Church, by the Rev. Mark Reasoner and Daniel O'Hare SJ. A vigil service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Friends may also visit Monday after 9 a.m. at the church. Military honors presented by VFW Post 788.
Darrell is survived by three daughters, Rebecca (Patrick) Couser and Mary Jo, both of Cedar Rapids, and Barbara (Wesley) Baker of Salinas, Calif.; a son, Michael (Jackie) of Granger, Ind.; a sister, Nada Zaiger of Security, Colo.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four nephews.
Darrell was preceded in death by his wife, Doris.
Darrell was born July 16, 1921, in Scranton, the son of Earl and Agnes (Slocum) Wever. He married Doris Beyer on Feb. 7, 1946, in Des Moines, after serving in the Navy during World War II. He worked at Rockwell Collins in production control for 24 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and an annual member of VFW Post 788.
Darrell's family was the center of his life. He was a loving caregiver for his wife Doris during her last illness. He was eager to hear details of the family's activities and especially delighted in his great-grandchildren. He enjoyed camping, playing pinochle and working on his computer. He was also a long-standing Hawkeye fan.
