Curtiss Raymond Nylund, 75, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, April 19, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 25, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment will follow at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.
Curtiss was born June 17, 1939, in Cook, Minn., to Theodore and Eva (Sokoloski) Nylund. After graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. National Guard and served until 1965. On June 4, 1960, Curtiss was united in marriage to Marcia Ann Woods in Virginia, Minn. They moved to Cedar Rapids shortly after their marriage.
Curtiss was an electrician for most of his life, working for A-1 Electric and later retiring from Nelson Electric in 2002. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Parish and Local Union 405. Curtiss loved to play horseshoes. He previously volunteered for the Boy Scouts of America, assisting his three sons achieve Eagle Scout. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping and was a self-proclaimed adventurer and all-around outdoorsman.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Marcia; three sons, Todd (Shelly) of Manchester, Les (Jacquie) of Castle Rock, Colo., and Kevin (Gina) of Louisville, Ky.; two daughters, Colleen "Coco" (Layne) Smith of Baker, La., and Carrie (Greg) Manhart of Fairfax; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one more soon to be born; two brothers, Ben (Donna) of Arkansas and Gary (Kathy) of Montana; and three sisters, Bea Amundson, Jan (Frank) Thomsen and Karen (Lee) Sharr, all of Minnesota.
Curtiss was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Curtiss's name has been established.
