Shadow organizations funding election outcome
The Gazette Opinion Staff

As a resident and voter of Iowa, I find it appalling that a shady organization like the American Future Fund is trying to decide the election for all Iowans in the 1st District.
Since when do we Americans stay on the sidelines and remain silent when corporations try to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars, in a single district, trying to influence people's votes?
We Iowans will decide who our next representative will be in Congress by looking at the candidates' records, asking them questions and listening to their debates.
Evidently, American Future Fund is a not-for-profit organization. How does a not-for-profit organization mobilize all this money from secret donors and corporations? Why are these donors so ashamed of identifying themselves?
Using these donors' money to flood airwaves with empty and distasteful television ads does not allow for a fair election process and goes against every principle of democracy that we Iowans are known for and proud of.
