McGuire, Howard R. 'Dick' McGuire
Howard R. “Dick” McGuire, 93, of 411 31st St. SE, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at Hallmar after a long full life. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial, with military rites: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p. m. Tuesday.
Survivors include his son, David and wife Mary Beth of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Birdie; and brother, Floyd.
Dick was born Jan. 17, 1919, in Cedar Rapids, to Ovid and Maurine McDonald McGuire. A lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids, he graduated from Washington High School and married Birdie E. Fiala on July 26, 1946. Dick was an engineer for the Cedar Rapids Water Department, retiring after more than 33 years of service.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II, seeing action in Europe and received several medals, including the Bronze Star.
Dick was an avid golfer, an enthusiastic supporter of Cedar Rapids, and enjoyed the time spent with friends and his beloved family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hallmar for their loving and compassion care of Dick.
