Washington County Attorney Larry Brock said this week he can proceed with representing the board of supervisors.
On July 17, Brock emailed the board and informed them that neither he nor his staff would be able to work with the supervisors or any department that answers to the board. Brock said he learned supervisors Bob Yoder and Jack Seward, Jr. had filed a complaint against him with the Attorney Disciplinary Board and that created a conflict of interest.
Brock said Wednesday that he had conversations with representatives from the Iowa Attorney General's Office and the Iowa County Attorneys Association on Monday about the matter.
“It was there opinion that I did not actually have a conflict,” Brock said.
Brock said because he doesn't actually represent individual board members, but the board as an entity, there were no issues.
Brock said he informed the board on Monday and attended their meeting on Tuesday.
“There've been no problems I've been aware of,” he said.
Yoder and Seward – who Brock had filed campaign finance violations against last summer during their campaign for the board of supervisors – have not commented on their complaint against Brock. Former Washington County Attorney Barb Edmondson, who is representing Yoder and Seward and was unseated by Brock, also declined to comment.
Yoder and Seward were both found not guilty of the violations.
