Donald J. Baum, 71, of Marshalltown, formerly of Dyersville, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, with a 6:30 p.m. American Legion Post 137 wake service at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave. SW, Dyersville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by Americal Legion Post 137.
Donald was born on May 8, 1943, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Jerome and Velma (Arduser) Baum. He graduated from Xavier High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1961-65 on a submarine.
Survivors include his son, Travis Niehaus of Lake Delhi; brothers, William (Barbara) Baum of Dubuque, Jay (Kathy) Baum of Vero Beach, Fla., and Loras (Betty) Baum of Dyersville; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents,
