Cedar Rapids Kernels baseball games are just one of the many events Veterans Memorial Stadium hosts each and every year.
Mixed Martial Arts bouts, charity walks, birthday parties, corporate outings and high school baseball games are just some of the other happenings at the ballpark.
This year, the Kernels are playing host to three prep baseball games, giving Iowa high schoolers the opportunity to play on a professional ball diamond.
On June 14, Keota faced off against Highland; Springville and Central City will play against each other on June 27; and North Cedar takes on Alburnett on June 28.
Playing at Perfect Game Field also helps raise money for the participating prep baseball programs. Every time the Kernels host a high school game, the home team for each game gets whatever money is collected at the gate.
Veterans Memorial Stadium has hosted high school baseball games for as long as the front office staff can remember, with about five to 10 games typically occurring annually throughout the summer, depending on the Kernels schedule.
In addition to high school games, the Kernels have also been the host site for the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament for the past eight years.
