No serious injuries were reported after a rollover crash Friday morning that blocked traffic in Cedar Rapids.
A van and a car collided just before 10 a.m. on Mount Vernon Road at the intersection of 30th Street SE. The car flipped onto its top, airbags deployed and glass shattered.
The woman who was driving the car was taken to Mercy Medical Center with minor complaints of pain, police said. Her name was not immediately released.
Sgt. Robert Collins said the car was westbound and had entered the center turn lane in preparation to turn left when a van from 30th Street SE pulled out in front of it. The van struck the passenger's side door of the car, causing the car to flip over.
"The physics of it were just enough," Collins said.
Collins said the woman was suspended upside down by her seat belt, but was conscious and alert. Emergency responders communicated to her through the the driver's side window, which was broken out in the crash, and she was able to unlock the car door so Collins and a firefighter could get her out.
Police said the driver of the van looked both ways, but did not see the car in the turn lane. She was not hurt, but would be charged with failure to yield, Collins said.
Westbound traffic on Mount Vernon Road SE was blocked for about 30 minutes as a result of the crash.
