Burger, Ronald (Bud)
Ronald (Bud) Burger, 83, of Fairfax, died Monday, May 27, 2013, in hospice care at Living Center West in Cedar Rapids from stroke related complications. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Fairfax, by the Rev. Dustin Vu. Burial: St. Patrick Cemetery, Fairfax. A rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Thursday where friends may visit from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home, Walford Chapel. Military Rites will be presented by the Fairfax American Legion-Pekomy Post # 572.
Bud was born March 29, 1930, in Huron, S.D. His family moved to Fairfax, Iowa, in 1936 where he grew up, graduated high school, married and raised his family. Bud was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served as an aviation radio man during the Korean War. His work and career centered on construction where he retired in 1995 as a superintendent at Loomis Brothers in Cedar Rapids.
During his life he was very active in the Fairfax community as a volunteer fireman as well as one of the first managers of the Fairfax baseball town team. He was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Fairfax American Legion. Bud belonged to many organizations, including the Knights of Columbus #909, Carpenters local 308, VMF Post 788, Pekomy, Legion Post 572 and the Fairfax LA Club. He was also a lifelong Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cub fan.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, JoAnn; son, Mike and wife DeLana of Cedar Rapids; son, Chris and wife Mary of Johnston; his beloved grandchildren, Nicole of Strawberry Point, and Jack and Claire of Johnston; sister, Marge Zalesky of Cedar Rapids; and sister-in-law, Adelaide Burger of Fairfax.
Bud was preceded in death by many close friends and his brothers, Kenneth and Myron.
On behalf of Bud and his entire family thank you for sharing in his life. As he mentioned just recently, “I had a great run.”
A remembrance may be directed to the family to benefit the Hospice of Mercy and the Fairfax Legion.
